Who is Azcan? What's a hoo?

Bantams in Pine-Woods

Chieftain Iffucan of Azcan in caftan
Of tan with henna hackles, halt!

Damned universal cock, as if the sun
Was blackamoor to bear your blazing tail.

Fat! Fat! Fat! Fat! I am the personal.
Your world is you. I am my world.

You ten-foot poet among inchlings. Fat!
Begone! An inchling bristles in these pines,

Bristles, and points their Appalachian tangs,
And fears not portly Azcan nor his hoos.

~Wallace Stevens

Tradition and the individual talent, let us say.

I think so. As well, perhaps, as European vs. New World?

    Appalachian tangs. I agree.

He strikes me as mostly attitude. Self-mockery is not bad, but does he accomplish more than attitude? Of course, he has done it in words and with flying colors, but does it add up to that much more?

Are you reading all of him straight through or something?
